LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Football Coach Mike Leach will spread some holiday cheer on Saturday afternoon as Red Raider Football will distribute 400 Christmas hams to the public beginning at 1 p.m.
Coach Leach and Red Raider Football have teamed up with United Supermarkets for this community project and hope to use it as a small thank you to the city of Lubbock for their avid support of Texas Tech.
"This is just a small way for us to say thank you to our great fans and to let our community know how important they are to our program," said Head Coach Mike Leach. "We want everyone in the city to know that Texas Tech Football is committed to the community, just like the pig. On behalf of our program, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year."
The hams will be distributed in the parking lot directly in front of the Football Training Facility (East Side of Jones AT&T Stadium) beginning at 1p.m. One ham will be given per family and will be done so on a first come, first-served basis.
Texas Tech will play its final game of the season on New Year's Day as the Red Raiders will battle the Virginia Cavaliers in the 2008 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. Kickoff is set for noon (CT) and will be televised nationally on CBS.
