Several Red Raiders to Make Trip to Sooner Open

LUBBOCK, Texas - As most of the Texas Tech track team rests for next week's Big 12 Championships, four Red Raider men will be traveling to Norman, Okla., for the Sooner Open. Texas Tech is scheduled to send hurdlers Daryl Burgess, Jansen Hyde, Marlon Odom and Omo Osaghae.
Odom, the only returning All-American of the four, has already met an NCAA provisional mark in the 60M hurdles on four occasions. The Killeen, Texas, native first qualified at the Dan DeHart Invitational from Albuquerque, N.M., with a time of 7.91 (adjusted for altitude). The following week at the Texas Tech Open Odom knocked off .01 of a second, clocking a 7.90 (also adjusted). Last week at the Tyson Invitational the senior finished with personal best times of 7.82 (preliminaries) and 7.81 (finals) to earn his third and fourth qualifying mark. His fastest time this year (7.81) currently ranks as the 13th fastest among the collegiate rankings.
Burgess has clocked the second-fastest times on the team, with his best occurring at Tech's first meet of the season, the Texas Tech Invitational. The senior Red Raider clocked an adjusted time of 7.96 in the semi-finals of the 60M hurdles. He has twice run a time of 8.09, first during the preliminary heat at the TTU Invite and next at the Tyson Invite. The Miami, Fla., native will the looking for his first qualifying mark in the event after meeting the provisional on three occasions last indoor season.
Freshman Osaghae continues to improve throughout the season and is inching closer to having a sub-eight second time in the 60M hurdles. After his collegiate debut at the Tech Invite, Osaghae's personal best sat at 8.08. At the Dan DeHart in New Mexico, the Lubbock native shaved .05 seconds from his PR after clocking a time of 8.03 (8.05 adjusted). At last week's Tyson Invitational, the freshman again reset his best, this time running a mark of 8.01.
Hyde has seen action in each of Tech's home events during the indoor season. His most impressive marks occurred at the final event last weekend, the second Texas Tech Open of the year. In the preliminary heat, the sophomore hurdler tied his best mark of the season with a run of 8.26. In the finals of the event, Hyde ran to a personal best mark of 8.17 (8.19 adjusted) to finish third.
Heats for the 60M hurdles from the Sooner Open are scheduled to begin at 1:10 p.m. from the Mosier Indoor Facility in Norman, Okla. The final for the event is tentatively scheduled for 2:40 p.m. Results of the meet will be posted on Texas Tech's athletic website, www.texastech.com, as soon as they are available.
