Thennis, Ramos Earn Weekly Awards

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior third baseman/left fielder Doug Thennis was honored by the Big 12 Conference today as the Big 12 Player of the Week while AJ Ramos' stellar outing against Dallas Baptist was named the Midwest Regional Performance of the Week by Insidepitching.com.
Thennis, a junior transfer from Sacramento City College, helped lead the Red Raiders to a perfect 4-0 record last week with wins over Western Illinois, Dallas Baptist and St. John's. Thennis compiled a .500 batting average (7-of-14) along with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, two walks, two sacrifice hits and a 1.143 slugging percentage. The Big 12 honor is his first.
In the Midland College Classic opener on Friday night, sophomore right-hander AJ Ramos turned in the best performance of his career. Ramos pitched eight shutout innings against Dallas Baptist while fanning a career-high nine batters to help lead the Red Raiders to a 21-1 rout of the Patriots. Ramos faced just three batters over the minimum and allowed three hits and just one walk. He was honored by Insidepitching.com as the Midwest Regional Performance of the Week.
