My name is Lindsey Louis and I'm an outside hitter here at Tech. This fall I will be a senior which means I've been here for three years! Just the other day I remember being a nervous freshman worrying about finding my classes on the first day of school. I'm originally from Austin, Texas, where I attended Westlake High School. Before moving up to Lubbock I was nervous because of the stories I had been told about dust storms and lack of things to do in Lubbock. But to my surprise I ended up loving it here! The campus is beautiful, the people are extremely nice, and there is so much school spirit.
During the spring we mainly focus on getting our bodies in top physical shape and fine-tuning our volleyball skills for the upcoming fall season. This week ended our individual practices and 5:00am conditioning work outs. Yes I said 5:00am.... But it's really not as bad as it seems. I actually feel more awake the mornings we have work outs than the mornings I get to sleep in. It really gets your endorphins going making it easier to focus in class. Today we had a code blue challenge, which means our team competes against another team in some form of competitive activity. This particular competition was against the Tech trainers. It was an obstacle course that incorporated different skills that are needed in becoming a successful volleyball player. Unfortunately we lost to the trainers but in our defense they had four guys on their team.
Something that is really nice about playing on the Tech volleyball team is that we are all so close. My teammates and coaches are like my second family. I know that if I have a problem or just want to talk I have people there for me. I think us all being so close has improved how we interact with each other on the court and increased our team moral. We are all so excited about starting team practices on Monday because that means we are closer to our spring tournaments! Tournaments are always fun because we get to play teams that are in other conferences and we eat at good restaurants.
I hope my blog has given you a better feel of what Texas Tech has to offer and why it's the place you want to be. And if you're a recruit I hope to see you soon! Bye!
