MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Due to a rain delay, the Texas Tech men's tennis team played two matches today against Virginia Commonwealth and Brown. Tech lost their first match 4-1 to VCU, but bounced back against Brown winning 4-1. The Red Raiders will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tomorrow, March 17, at 11 a.m.
Tech began their first match on Thursday, March 15, against Virginia Commonwealth. The team lost the doubles point in a series of close matches and was forced to play singles the following morning due to rain.
On Friday, the Raiders were forced to play without their No. 5 clutch player Michael Breler as he sat out due to illness. Tech was edged by the No. 32 Rams dropping three singles matches. The team's No. 1 Bojan Szumanski went down in the second set with a severe ankle injury, and was forced to sit out the rest of the tournament.
With two of their top players out, the Red Raiders looked to the rest of the roster to pick up the slack against defending Ivy League Champions Brown University. Tech's singles came out strong and pulled away with the 4-1 win, advancing their team into the consolation bracket to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
