LUBBOCK, Texas - A one-hour delay moved the start of the Big 12 opener for Texas Tech and No. 3 Oklahoma's doubleheader to 6 p.m. And, while the weather held off long enough to allow the teams to play both games, Texas Tech (17-15) couldn't hold off Sooner bats as Oklahoma (35-2) won the first game, 7-0, and then took the nightcap, 7-3.
D.J. Mathis (9-2) pitched 5.1 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs, but picked up the win as her offense came to life in the second game of the night, which lasted two and a half hours. Sarah Losleben (4-6) took the loss for the Red Raiders as the junior gave up eight hits and four earned runs.
Norrelle Dickson highlighted a Sooner offense which posted 11 hits on Tech pitching (Ashly Jacobs relieved Losleben in the sixth) and featured a five-run fifth. Four Sooners doubled in the game, including two in the big inning, which also featured costly errors by the Tech defense.
The Red Raider offense tallied the three runs on nine hits and two walks. Ashley Parker and Devin Zaragoza went two for three, and A. Parker scored twice while Zaragoza scored and collected an RBI. Heather Parker, Robyn Wike, Montana Patin and Jennifer Corkin also singled.
Lauren Eckermann improved to 20-0 on the season, as the freshman tossed a complete-game shut out, blanking Tech on five hits and a walk. The right hander struck out 12 in game 1. Red Raider freshman Jacobs took the loss and fell to 13-8 on the season.
Ashley Parker was two-for-three and Zaragoza, Patin and Whitney Riley picked up the other hits, Riley's a two-bagger.
Samantha Ricketts blasted her 13th home and finished with three RBIs on a two-for-four night. Lindsey Vandever chipped in with a single and a double which plated two Sooners.
Texas Tech hosts Missouri in a weekend series in Lubbock, with game times of 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday advertised. Oklahoma heads to Austin as Big 12 play continues for both squads.
