Men's Tennis Play Two Tough Road Matches

LUBBOCK, Texas- Playing in two of their toughest matches of the season, the Texas Tech men's tennis team hit the road to face No. 33 Texas A&M on Fri., March 30, at 6 p.m., and No. 12 Texas on Sun., April 1, at 1 p.m. The Red Raiders enter the match 10-5, 1-0 in conference play.
The Aggies lead the series with tech 35-5, boasting a 4-3 win last season in Lubbock. A&M currently sits 12-5 on the season, coming off 5-2 wins over both New Mexico and Tulsa. The Longhorns enter the match on a three game winning streak and sits 11-5 overall. Texas hosts Tech for their first conference match this season, and leads the series 30-3 winning last season 5-1 in Lubbock.
"This is going to be a big opportunity for us to play well," said head Coach Tim Siegel. "I know both teams very well and they are very well coached. We have a real chance to beat two teams ranked ahead of us. I know our guys are really looking forward to it."
Leading the team in singles and playing in the No. 2 spot is senior Dimitrio Martinez. He currently holds a 10-2 dual record, and is tied at 64 wins with teammate Bojan Szumanski in Tech's record book for career singles victories.
"The team and I are really fired up for this weekend," said Red Raider captain Martinez. "This will be a real good chance for us to improve in the rankings, and bring home two tough Big 12 wins."
Of the seven Big 12 men's tennis programs, six are ranked in the top 35 in the latest ITA/FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings including No. 4 Baylor, No. 12 Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 23 Oklahoma, No. 33 Texas A&M and No. 34 Texas Tech.
