LUBBOCK, Texas - In recognition of his work off the court, Texas Tech senior tennis student-athlete Dimitrio Martinez has been selected to the inaugural Big 12 Spring Sports Good Works Team.
Since his arrival on the Tech campus, Martinez has been apart of Red Raider Play Day and Take a Kid to the Game. He has also visited patients at University Medical Center and spoken to elementary and high school students in the Lubbock area.
"It's a great feeling to be able to contribute and give back to the Lubbock community," Martinez said. "I am just privileged to have the opportunity to represent Tech, and receiving this award means a lot to me."
Martinez, the 2007 team captain, holds an 11-4 record winning his last match against New Mexico State. His 65 career singles wins ranks him second all-time behind current Red Raider Bojan Szumanski who leads by a single victory.
The squad consists of a member of each Big 12 institution that is selected based on significant community service, good academic standing and participation in a Big 12 sponsored sport.
