Red Raiders Earn 15 Regional Marks at TCU Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Tech track teams battled the winds and 11 other schools in Fort Worth, Texas, at the TCU Invitational on Saturday. The Red Raiders earned five victories, 15 regional marks as well as 18 personal bests. Three Tech members had their first ever regional qualification at Saturday's meet.
Earning a first-time regional qualification was freshman Omo Osaghae in the men's 110M hurdles. The Lubbock native ran a personal best time of 14.18 to finish fifth. Sophomore Lyle Leong qualified for May's NCAA Midwest Regional with a jump of 24'-4.5" in the men's long jump. Junior transfer Michael Cast had a personal best of 203'-8" in the men's javelin to hit the first regional mark of his career.
One week after running the school's third-fastest 110M hurdle mark, senior Marlon Odom bettered his top 2007 time by running a mark of 13.50. The time sits as Tech's second-fastest mark and the fastest collegiate run in the country. In the same event, sophomores Nathan Lowry and Jansen Hyde each had regional marks, with Lowry setting a personal best with a run of 14.17 improving his 14.24 from the Texas Relays. The run is Hyde's second qualification; he also has two in the 400M hurdles.
Sophomore D'Andra Carter took the title in the women's discus as she threw a regional mark of 166'-6". In the women's hammer throw, redshirt freshman Ozie Okolie threw for 174'-2" to win the event.
In the men's 400M hurdles, senior Bryan Scott won the event with a field best of 51.04, a regional time. In the same event, freshman Zach Plinario ran a personal best of 53.51 to place fourth.
The men's pole vault swept the top three spots with regional marks as Seth Harris led the way with a clearance of 17'-2.75". Freshman Brian Porter placed second with a height of 16'-10.75 and senior Chris Ashcraft took third clearing 16'-6.75".
Lacy Wilson placed second in the women's high jump with a regional-qualifying height of 5'-10.75". It marks Wilson's fourth regional mark in the event. Pole vaulter Amanda Alley finished second in the event with a new all-time best height of 13'-1.5", while Kelley Schulz also qualified in the event with a clearance of 12'-5.5" to finish fifth. In the men's long jump, Bobby Evers finished third with a regional mark of 24'-6.5", his third of the season.
Women achieving personal bests include freshman Veronica DiLullo as she leapt 18'-3.25" in the long jump. In the 800M, Asia Diaz (2:11.47), Gladys Kipsang (2:13.20) and Sequoia McKinney (2:17.53) each finished in PR time.
For the men, John Means shaved eight seconds from his 3000M steeplechase PR after running a mark of 9:58.03 to finish third.
