Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team kicks off the 2007 season this weekend with a trip to the east coast to face Georgia and Vanderbilt in the Georgia Nike Invitational. The Red Raiders and Bulldogs are set to face off Friday night at 6 p.m. CDT, with the Vanderbilt match-up set for 10 a.m. CDT Sunday.
Friday's match-up will also be the first for the Red Raiders with new head coach Tom Stone on the bench. Stone comes to Tech after spending a year as an assistant at Clemson. He has also served as the head coach for the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA and a lead analyst for CSTV, Fox Sports, and ESPN.
Tech holds a 1-0 all-time record against Georgia with that lone match ending in a 4-0 victory in 1997. Sunday's match will be the first meeting between the Red Raiders and Commodores.
Brittney Harrison leads the ten starters returning from the 2006 squad that finished 7-11-2 overall. Harrison led the Red Raiders in goals, shots, points and shots on goal in 2006 earning her a selection to the Big 12 All-Newcomer team.
The Red Raiders begin the season with three straight road matches, two this weekend and then at Texas State Sept. 5, before the home opener Sept. 7 against Stephen F. Austin.
