LUBBOCK, Texas - With nine letterwinners and five starters returning to mix with a host of talented newcomers, optimism is high for Texas Tech as it opens 2007 practices Tuesday at the United Spirit Arena.
The Red Raiders will have a check in and team meetings in the afternoon before dinner in the evening. Wednesday the team will start official practices at 2:30 p.m.. The team will practice both mornings and afternoons for the next two weeks to get ready for the season.
After several close contests last season, Red Raiders coach Nancy Todd will lean heavily on four returning seniors to help lead the way this year. Included in that group are middle blocker Amy Gandy (Charlebois) and setter Emily Ziegler.
Tech will open its season on Aug. 24 at the UNLV Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.. Its first home contests will be the weekend of August 31 when the Raid Raiders host Lamar and Southern Methodist. Big 12 play will get underway on Sept. 12 when Colorado comes into town.
