LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off its conference-opening win over Colorado, Texas Tech will battle top-ranked Nebraska Saturday at 7 p.m., as the Red Raiders seek their second-straight conference win.
Saturday night's contest promises to be a tough one for Tech. Nebraska, the defending national champions, boast an undefeated 8-0 record and returns a talented squad led by last year's AVCA National Player of the Year Sarah Pavan. The Huskers beat the Red Raiders both times the two squared off last season.
Tech enters the contest riding the momentum of Wednesday's Big 12 opening win over the Buffs. The Red Raiders came out hot early against Colorado and cruised to a 2-0 advantage going into the locker room. The Buffs came out of the break determined, however, and took the next two games, before Tech rebounded to take the decisive game five and claim the match. Four Red Raiders recorded double-doubles against Colorado, including seniors Amy Gandy, Emily Ziegler and Alicia Ostmeyer, and junior Brandi Hood.
The Red Raiders (7-3, 1-0) boast a very balanced offensive attack this year, with three players having recorded triple-digit kills and two others with 70-plus kills. Michelle Flores leads the way with 133. The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native has recorded at least 10 kills in eight of Tech's last nine matches.
First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena.
