Tech Unable to Overcome Hot-Hitting Huskers

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech ran smack into the No. 1-ranked team in the nation Saturday night and battled hard, but it was unable to overcome a hot-hitting night from Nebraska and lost 0-3 (30-19, 30-15 and 30-20).
With the loss, Tech falls to 7-4 and 1-1 on the season. The Huskers remained undefeated at 9-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
Michelle Flores led the Red Raiders with a team-high 10 kills on .200 hitting for her ninth game with double-digit kills. Junior Brandi Hood added seven kills on a team-best .417 hitting. Jenn Harrell and Jaclyn Spearman had 11 digs apiece to pace the Tech defense.
The Red Raiders came out battling hard early in the match and took a 3-2 advantage at the outset. The Huskers came surging back, however, to reclaim the lead. Tech held strong and stayed within two points, but Nebraska's hot hitting continued to carry the Huskers to the 30-19 win in game one.
Game two started off as a back-and-forth battle early on, before the Huskers hot-hitting caught up to put them up seven points about midway through. Nebraska would go on to the 30-15 victory in the second game.
The Red Raiders came out strong out of the locker room and claimed an early 3-1 lead. The undefeated Huskers came back to reclaim a two-point advantage. Tech continued to battle hard, however, and stayed within striking distance until Nebraska went ahead and went on to the 30-20 win to claim the match.
The Huskers knocked down 51 kills on an attack percentage of .342. They were paced by double-digit kills from Kori Cooper and Tracy Stalls, who had 11 kills and 10 kills, respectively.
Tech will look to bounce back next week when it travels to College Station for a showdown with in-state rival Texas A&M Wed. at 7 p.m.. The Red Raiders will stay on the road from there, as they travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on the Jayhawks Saturday night.
