LUBBOCK, Texas - FSN Southwest announced today that Texas Tech's game at Rice will kickoff on the network at 2 p.m. CT from Rice Stadium in Houston on Sept. 15. The game was originally scheduled as a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The game is the third scheduled broadcast of the season for Texas Tech. Monday's opener at SMU was televised on ESPN, while the Big 12 Conference opener Sept. 22 at Oklahoma State will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on FSN. Greg Lucas (play-by-play) and former SMU quarterback and Texas Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year Chris Sanders (analyst) will call the game.
Texas Tech and Rice will renew acquaintances when the two hit the field next weekend as both were long-time members of the Southwest Conference. Tech leads the all-time series 25-20-1 and has split the last seven games with the Owls with Tech winning each Lubbock matchup from 1989-95. The last time the Red Raiders won in Houston was in 1988, a 38-36 victory.
The Red Raiders enter this weekend's home opener against UTEP with a 1-0 mark on the season after knocking off SMU, 49-9, in Dallas on Labor Day. Rice is 0-1 on the season following a 16-14 loss at home to Nicholls State last Saturday. The Owls travel to Waco to face Baylor.
Rice will mark the third-straight Conference USA opponent for the Red Raiders (SMU, UTEP). Tech is 89-75-3 all-time against current members of C-USA.
