LUBBOCK, Texas - Chalk up another honor for Texas Tech's Graham Harrell (Ennis, Texas). The senior quarterback notched his third-straight Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week award and leads the conference with four in the 11-week season.
Following a fumbled snap on Tech's opening drive, Harrell engineered seven-straight touchdown drives as the second-ranked Red Raiders ran away from the Cowboys, 56-20, to improve to 10-0 and 6-0 in conference play. The 10-0 mark is the best since the 1938 season, while Tech's conference record is the best start in school history. Harrell completed 40-of-50 passes for 456 yards and six touchdowns.
Harrell's yardage total in the game gives him 14,759 for his career and brings him 272 yards away from tying former BYU quarterback Ty Detmer in second place on the NCAA all-time passing yardage list. He also has 125 career touchdown passes and it seven away from tying former Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan's NCAA record of 132.
Harrell picked up Walter Camp Football Foundation National Player of the Week accolades Sunday for his efforts and is nominated for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. He already has three AT&T honors to his credit in 2008.
Texas Tech has the week off from competition, before traveling to Norman, Okla., for a Nov. 22 date with the No. 4/5 Sooners. That game will be televised nationally on ABC at 7 p.m. CT. Brent Musberger, Kirk Herbstreit and Lisa Salters will call the game.
