Leach Among Featured Speakers at AFCA Convention

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Coach Mike Leach will be among the featured speakers at the 2009 American Football Coaches Association Convention in Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 11-14. Leach, winner of the Woody Hayes Award and George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, joins a seasoned group of coaches speaking during the clinic sessions.
The four-day event includes meetings, award presentations and a four-day coaching clinic. Attendance for the event at the Opryland Hotel is expected to top the 6,000 mark for the first time in convention history.
Leach will conduct a session during the clinic Jan. 12, while Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops also will conduct a session the same afternoon. The day will conclude with former Nebraska Head Coach Tom Osborne and Penn State's Joe Paterno sharing the stage for the Master Coach session. Leach kicks off the afternoon at 2 p.m.
Other speakers scheduled for the event include former Wisconsin Head Coach Barry Alvarez, former Air Force Head Coach Fisher DeBerry, Brady Hoke of San Diego State, Alabama's Nick Saban, Buffalo's Turner Gill, defensive coordinators Will Muschamp of Texas and Nick Holt of USC, and special teams coaches Matt MacPherson of Northwestern and Danny O'Rourke of Navy.
The ninth-year head coach of the Red Raiders led the program to its best regular season in program history with an 11-1 mark and a high national ranking of No. 2. Texas Tech enters this year's AT&T Cotton Bowl with a No. 7 ranking against No. 25 Mississippi.
