LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's tennis returns to the South Plains this weekend looking to improve on its 4-1 duals record. The Lady Raiders are set to face North Texas on Fri., Feb. 8, at 5 p.m., and Nevada on Sat., Feb. 9, at noon, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Last weekend in Tucson, Ariz., Tech faced its first challenge in No. 38 Arizona. The Wildcats used their home court momentum to edge the Lady Raiders 4-3, taking the doubles point and three-consecutive singles wins. Tech recovered against San Diego the next day in doubles and singles, walking away with the 4-0 finish.
This season Tech has found several promising results throughout the lineup, with three players currently undefeated in singles action. Freshman Kelsy Garland and sophomore Kerryn Potgieter sit at 4-0, while freshman Simone Templeton holds a 5-0 record playing in the No. 3 and 4 positions. Mini-streaks have emerged in doubles as well, with the No. 1 Tech pair of Garland and junior Samantha van der Drift leading the team 3-0.
The Mean Green travel to Lubbock after winning three-straight matches and losing only to Rice, 4-3, in their season opener. Tech dominates the series over UNT, 11-2. Saturday will be the first meeting between the Lady Raiders and the Wolf Pack. Nevada is led in singles by No. 48-ranked sophomore Maria Mizyuk, who is also a part of the No. 32 ranked doubles pair with teammate Caroline Bailly.
