LUBBOCK, Texas - With the 2007 season in the books, Texas Tech volleyball is hard at work preparing for its 2008 spring competition. The Red Raiders will compete in three tournaments this spring, highlighted by its own Texas Tech Spring Tournament March 29.
In addition to its own tournament, Tech will also take part in the SMU Spring Tournament in Dallas on April 5 and host the Spring Fling Grass Tournament, an open-to-the public tournament on April 19.
A total of 10 schools will come to Lubbock for the Texas Tech spring tournament late this month. Those schools include Western Texas College, Lubbock Christian University, Abiline Christian University, Wayland Baptist, Cisco Junior College, Texas A&M Commerce, Cameron University, Angelo State, Tarleton State and, of course, Texas Tech. Games will be held at the United Sprit Arena and will last throughout the day on March 29. Admission is free to the public.
The Red Raiders will get a chance to avenge a loss to SMU this past season when they travel to Dallas for the SMU Tournament. Potential competition for Tech's spikers includes Texas Arlington, TCU, UTEP, Texas State, Frank Phillips College and the Mustangs.
Tech returns 12 players off last season's squad, including libero Jenn Harrell, one of the Big 12's leaders in digs this last year, outside hitter Michelle Flores and middle blocker Brandi Hood. Tech is scheduled to open the 2008 season Aug. 29, at the North Texas Tournament in Denton, Texas.
