LUBBOCK, Texas - Fun! Exciting! Entertaining! All are words to describe this year's annual Red-Black Game at Jones AT&T Stadium on April 19 as a myriad of activities are planned for fans in conjunction with the game. The weekend includes women's tennis against Texas A&M and baseball against Kansas State.
The weekend gets underway April 18 at 5 p.m. as the No. 64 Lady Raider tennis squad hosts the 33rd-ranked Aggies of Texas A&M at the McLeod Tennis Center. Festivities wrap up with Saturday's 3 p.m. baseball game against Kansas State at Dan Law Field. Fans can bring their roster cards from the spring game to Dan Law Field and receive two tickets for the price of one. The two events serve as the bookends to a fun weekend for the entire family that includes Texas Tech Football and several activities surrounding the annual spring game.
Highlighting the pre-game festivities Saturday is a tailgating contest in the west stadium parking lot. The winner will receive a season-long parking pass for the 2008 football season. Tailgaters will be judged on creativity, number of fans enjoying the tailgate, entertainment aspects of the tailgate and Tech spirit.
The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with a free football clinic on the Jones AT&T Stadium turf for students in the eighth grade and below. The hour-long session will be conducted by members of the Texas Tech football team. Interested participants can check-in at the stadium at the southwest ramp just prior to the start of the clinic.
Raider Alley also will open at 11 a.m. with inflatable games available for children. The hour-long annual alumni game kicks off at noon.
All fans will be seated on the west side of the stadium and gates will open at 11 a.m. Roster cards will be distributed to the first 5,000 fans. An autograph session will take place with the Red Raiders following the game. There is no admission charge for the game or parking. The Goin' Band from Raiderland will be on hand to lead the crowd.
For the second year in a row, the game will feature a defensive scoring system. The defense will be credited seven points for a touchdown, three points for a turnover, two points for a three and out, one point for a sack and a point for a turnover on downs. In the past, the offense has been the only group credited with points.
The game will be webcast live at www.texastech.com via RaiderVision All-Access.
