OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Texas Tech (23-35) will move on to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship after upsetting third-seeded Missouri (44-15) 5-3 Saturday afternoon. Tech will now take on Nebraska at 4:30 p.m. CST on FSN.
The Red Raiders have now won four of their last five Big 12 Tournament games, including last year's Cinderella run to the conference championship game.
The game belonged to the pitchers early as the Tigers' Jen Bruck and Tech's Ashly Jacobs kept the offenses quiet through the first three innings. Mizzou's Rhea Taylor, the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, finally broke open a score in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Red Raiders' bats came alive in the top of the fifth to put across three runs on seven hits. Robyn Wike started things with a single and then hustled in on Whitney Riley's blooping infield single. She then came in on a single from Montana Patin. Jennifer Corkin followed up Patin's single with one of her own to left to plate Leah Legler for Tech's third run of the inning.
Corkin added a two-run home run to center to give the Red Raiders a 5-1 cushion. It would end up being a key hit as the Tigers put a scare into things by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Tech got the final two outs to seal the win.
Corkin finished 2-4 with 3 RBI to pace Tech, while Patin added a pair of singles to finish 2-4 with an RBI. Jacobs (10-14) went the distance in the circle to pick up the win. Bruck finished 2-4 on the day while taking the loss in the circle.
The Re Raiders will now take on Nebraska, who upset second-seeded Oklahoma. Fans can catch the action on FSN or follow it via www.texastech.com.
