Tech Adds Eight More to NCAA Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - After six Red Raiders qualified for the NCAA Championships yesterday, Texas Tech added eight more names to send to the NCAA Championships.
Sally Kipyego set a new school record and Midwest Regional record in the 1500M. Her winning time of 4:11.79 broke the previous school record by over seven seconds and automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. The time is the second fastest in the nation this season.
Tech won the men's 110M hurdles for the second year in a row. Shawon Harris won with a time of 13.62 and qualifies for the NCAA Championships. Omo Osaghae will be making his first trip to the NCAA Championships by placing fourth with a time of 13.87.
Sandra Iwunze earned her first trip to the NCAA's finishing second in the 400M hurdles with a time of 58.07.
In the 800M the Lady Raiders had Gladys Kipsang place third and automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships with a time of 2:06.27. Asia Diaz placed eighth with a time of 2:11.55.
Irene Kimaiyo punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships running a time of 10:12.63 in the 3000M steeplechase to place third.
Patience Knight placed second with a throw of 55'-2.25" in the shot put. She will be making her second trip to the NCAA Championships.
Gilbert Limo earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships by placing fourth in the 3000M steeplechase. He ran a time of 8:47.48.
The men's 4x400M relay of Rodney Mims, Shawon Harris, Tim Foster and Gil Roberts finished in third with a season best time of 3:04.05. The third place finish automatically qualifies the relay for the NCAA Championships.
Brian Porter cleared 17'-1" to finish in a tie for fifth place. A jump-off was needed and Porter failed to clear a height in the jump-off.
Wouter LeRoux placed seventh in the 400M hurdles with a time of 50.91 at his first Midwest Regional Championship.
Anthony Flemons placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 51'-5.75".
The women finished a program best second place with a score of 66.50. The men were fifth with a score of 53.50. Texas A&M won the men and women team titles.
