LUBBOCK, Texas - Maegan Wilber scored two first half goals and Kacy Hardie added another as Texas Tech defeated West Texas A&M, 3-0, Thursday night in an exhibition match at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The match was halted with 13 minutes remaining due to lightning in the area.
Leading the way with six of Tech's 13 shots, Wilber's presence was felt around the net as both of her goals came on unassisted rebound attempts, the first in the 18th minute and the second coming in the 37th minute.
With less than a minute remaining in the first half, freshman Kacy Hardie connected on Tech's final goal inside the box off a Lexi Castellano pass. Hardie also attempted a total of three shots in the match.
Tina Rincon collected two saves in the shutout as the Red Raiders outshot the Lady Buffs, 13-4, and attempted six corner kicks to their one.
"I thought for our first game in the preseason we did a good job," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "Obviously, you have preseason games for a reason, and this helped us fine-tune things as we were able to play all our healthy players. We found out some things we need to work on, but I think it's definitely a good start."
Tech rounds out its preseason schedule Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against North Texas. All fans will be admitted free to the match. The Red Raiders host their regular season opener Fri., Aug. 22 against Lamar.
