Tech Falls to TCU in Five Sets

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech opened the Red Raider Round Up presented by Aim Bank with a loss in a five set grueling match against TCU (14-25, 25-23, 23-25, 29-27, 15-11).
The Red Raiders won the first set on a 9-1 run fueled by five TCU errors. Hayley Ball had four kills in the set and Caroline Witte had eight assists in the first set.
The next three sets were all separated by two points. TCU took the second set 25-23 behind Irene Hester's five kills. Tech was led in that set with four kills by Amanda Dowdy.
Dowdy continued her tear in the third set as she recorded six kills as Tech won 25-23. Dowdy finished the match with a game high 19 kills and a .471 attack percentage.
The third set went to the Horned Frogs 29-27. Brandi Hood had double digit kills with 10 during the fourth set. Hood finished the match with 18 kills and a .567 attack percentage.
Tech was unable to win the final set as TCU won 15-11.
Witte finished the match with a triple double as she had 45 assists, 10 blocks and 10 digs. Three Red Raiders recorded double-digit kills as Hayley Ball recorded 10 kills along with Dowdy's 19, and Hood's 18.
Tech returns to action tonight at 7 p.m. to open Big 12 conference play against Oklahoma.
