Dowdy Wins Big 12 Rookie of the Week Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's freshman middle blocker Amanda Dowdy was awarded the Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors for her outstanding performance during the Red Raider Round Up.
Dowdy compiled a .420 hitting percentage and averaged 3.64 kills in three matches. In the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma she posted a team-high 20 kills and a .421 hitting clip. She finished the weekend with 51 kills and 16 blocks en route to being named to the Red Raider Round-Up All-Tournament Team. Dowdy had the sixth-best league performance last week in hitting percentage, kills and points. She also was the highest-ranked freshman in the kills and points per set categories.
This is the first time a Red Raider has been recognized since Kelly Johnson won the player of the week award in 2004. Tech will head to Baylor for a match Wednesday starting at 7 p.m.
