Women's Tennis Advances Four to Next Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The first day of competition at the 2009 Wilson / ITA Regional Championships in Waco concluded with all four Texas Tech players winning their qualifying matches and advancing to the round of 16 for Saturday's play.
Lorena Aviles defeated Sam Houston State's Laura Peschke in the morning and then topped Neila Starratt from the University of Houston in the afternoon match-up. Lorena will face UTA's Nikola Matovica on Saturday morning in the Round of 16.
Stefanie Peana won her opening match over Sarah Adams of UTSA and then defeated Lamar's Diana Mendez to advance to the Round of 16 where she will take on Varsha Shiva Shankar from Rice.
Kerryn Potgieter stopped Alex Glebova of UTEP in her first match and then defeated Houston's Laura Ring in the afternoon. Kerryn meets Houston's Joanna Kacprzyk on Saturday.
Caroline Starck downed Texas State's Saskia Kruse in her first match and then topped UTSA's Kavya Menon of UTSA.
The four remaining Lady Raiders in the main draw will begin singles play tomorrow. Sandra Dynka, Elizabeth Ullathorne, Kelsy Garland, and Natalie Leitch have their first singles matches in the late afternoon.
Doubles play also begins on Saturday. The Texas Tech doubles pairings are all in the main draw and will begin play on Saturday.
The Lady Raider doubles will feature Kelsy Garland and Elizabeth Ullathorne, Natalie Leitch and Stefanie Peana, Caroline Starck and Kerryn Potgieter, and Lorena Aviles and Sandra Dynka.
