LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletics Department has announced it is launching a student attendance challenge this year and will reward students to who attend a majority of the non-conference basketball games.
Students who attend six non-conference men's games AND four non-conference women's games will receive a special admission card distributed at the men's basketball game versus Missouri on Wed., Jan. 13. The card will gain students early admission, through a designated entrance, to men's and women's premium conference games. Those games include Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State for the men, and Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Baylor for the women.
Texas Tech basketball tips off in early November when the Lady Raiders face LCU in an exhibition game on Mon., Nov. 9, and the Red Raiders face South Dakota on Fri., Nov. 13.
"We want to reward the commitment some of our students make to support the basketball programs by allowing them early admission and a chance to pick their favorite seat to the premium conference match-ups before the general student body arrives," said Craig Wells, Senior Associate Athletics Director.
Pat Knight has scheduled an impressive non-conference schedule that features three Pac-10 teams (Oregon State, Washington and Stanford) and the Big 12 conference games always provide Tech fans with some of the best basketball in the nation. The Red Raiders open the season as hosts of the Duel of Desert with three games in three days Nov. 13-15. Tech hosts Missouri, winners of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, in the conference home opener on Jan. 13.
Kristy Curry and the Lady Raiders host an exhibition game with LCU on Nov. 9, before tipping-off the regular season against Sam Houston State on Nov. 14. They also host the Basketball Travelers Classic Nov. 27-29, and New Mexico in December in non-conference play. Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, the defending Big 12 champions, among others in the Big 12 will come to Lubbock.
