
Davis, Torres Receive Academic Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech football players Alex Torres and Cody Davis were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI football team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Davis, a defensive back from Stephenville, Texas, has a 3.61 grade point average in business. Torres, a receiver from El Paso, Texas, currently has a 3.34 GPA.
Both athletes are redshirt freshmen enjoying outstanding rookie seasons on the field as well. Davis is the team's second-leading tackler with 57 on the year. He also has four pass breakups. Torres, a walk-on in 2008, earned a starting role at receiver prior to the season and is the team second-leading receiver with 43 catches for 526 yards and four touchdowns.
In order to be considered for Academic All-District, an athlete must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, have played in at least half of the team's games at the position listed for their nomination, and have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution.
