Kipyego Automatically Qualifies for Mile at Tyson Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 9 Red Raiders and No. 14 Lady Raiders recorded five NCAA provisional marks and a NCAA automatic mark by Sally Kipyego in the mile during the first day of the Tyson and Texas A&M Invitational.
Kipyego ran a personal-best and school record time of 4:32.01 in the mile to place second behind professional Anna Willard at the Tyson Invitational. The time of 4:32.01 is the fastest time ran collegiately this season and automatically puts her in the NCAA Championships for the mile.
Anthony Flemons won the men's long jump with a personal-best and NCAA provisional mark of 25'-6" at the Texas A&M Invitational. The mark currently places him in the top 10 of the nation.
Lillian Badaru ran a personal-best in the 3,000M as she finished as the first collegian in the race and second overall with a NCAA provisional time of 9:28.90 at the Tyson Invitational.
On the first day of the Texas A&M Invitational the first race of the day was the 60M hurdles. Tori Smith ran the fifth-fastest time of the prelims with an 8.52 to qualify for finals of the 60M hurdles. Teammate Sandra Iwunze made the finals as well, with a time of 8.61.
Tech's duo of Patience Knight and D'Andra Carter faced tough competition in the shot. Knight placed second with a NCAA provisional throw of 53'-11" and Carter recorded a mark of 47'-3" to place sixth.
Freshman Terra Evans ran a NCAA provisional time of 7.40 in a very talented field to qualify for the finals on tomorrow. The Red Raiders had two qualify for the finals of the men's 60M. Julius Walker ran a 6.87 to qualify 11th and Markus Henderson qualified with a time of 6.92.
Omo Osagahe ran the second-fastest time and NCAA provisional mark of 7.87 to make the finals and Jamele Mason clocked a time of 8.02 in the 60M hurdles to qualify fifth.
Brandon Washington, after redshirting last season due to an injury, won the 600Y with a personal-best time of 1:10.53.
Junior Amanda Alley won the women's pole vault clearing a height of 12'-6.25" and freshman Sage Lasater finished seventh with a height of 12'-00.50".
The distance group running at the Tyson Invitational had numerous personal bests as well.
The Red Raiders started the day with the mile. Silas Kemboi finished ninth in the college section with a time of 4:11.29. Cory Higgins ran a personal-best time of 4:11.66 to place 10th. Nathan Milles recorded a personal-best of 4:15.63. Gilbert Limo placed second in the Olympic Development mile with a time of 4:05.86.
Gladys Kipsang and Asia Diaz were on each others heels during the 800M with Kipsang edging Diaz at the line. The junior ran a personal-best time of 2:09.38 to finish seventh in the Olympic Development 800M and Diaz ran a personal-best of 2:09.92 to place ninth.
In the team scores at the A&M Invitational the Red Raiders are in third with 35 points and the Lady Raiders sit fifth with 24 points.
