No. 33 Men's Tennis Upsets No. 25 Oklahoma State

LUBBOCK, Texas - In its consolation match at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, the No. 33 Texas Tech men's tennis team upset Big 12 foe No. 25 Oklahoma State, 4-1, on Saturday morning at the Lagoon Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. Tech finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
In doubles action, the Red Raiders (10-6) grabbed the doubles points by winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Tech's No. 2 team of Michael Breler and Sinisa Markovic dropped Mikhail Trukshanin and Igor Sobolta, 8-4, to win the first match, while David Gonzalez and Gonzalo Escobar clinched the doubles point as they defeated Anton Bobytskyi and Aleksey Bessnov, 8-6, at No. 3.
The Cowboys (7-3) started off singles getting their lone win at the No. 1 spot as second-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov beat Tech's No. 48 Raony Carvalho, 6-1, 6-2. However, the Red Raiders went on to win three-straight matches starting at the No. 2 position as Markovic won over Trukshanin, 6-3, 6-2. The next victory came at No. 4 with Escobar winning in straight-sets over Bessnov, 6-2, 6-4. Securing the win for Tech was Christian Rojmar as he defeated Nathan Byrnes, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3.
"I'm very proud of how well we responded after yesterday's tough loss," said head coach Tim Siegel. "This match made our trip. We had some tough matches on the road last week. We played well in doubles, and I was most pleased with how Gonzalo (Escobar) played singles and how Christian (Rojmar) battled back after being down, 6-1, 2-0. This match would have probably ended 4-3 if we had played out No. 5 and 6 (singles), so it was another tight match for us."
The Red Raiders return to action on Sat., March 28, as they host Lamar at 3 p.m., at the McLeod Tennis Center.
