Texas Tech Opens Big 12 Play Against No. 6 Oklahoma

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders host No. 6 Oklahoma as Tech opens Big 12 play in a doubleheader on Tues., March 10 at Rocky Johnson Field in the home opener. Game one will begin at 1:30 p.m., and game two is slated to begin shortly thereafter.
It's Good To Be Home
Texas Tech softball will play its first home game on March 10, as it takes on the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners. In 2008, the Red Raiders posted a record of 13-6 at home, marking its best home record in the history of Rocky Johnson Field.
Liz Lands In Top Ten
Red Raider senior Elizabeth Eimen sits eighth in individual batting in the Big 12, hitting .394 with three doubles, a triple, and 10 RBI's, which is a dramatic increase over last year when she bat an just .186.
Shupp Named A Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist
Senior center fielder Megan Shupp has been selected as a candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award as she was named as one of 30 elite collegiate softball student-athletes who excel not only on the playing field but in the classroom and in their community. Shupp is batting .308 with 20 hits, 2 home runs, and a team leading 15 RBI.

Texas Tech is 9-5 on opening day at home since the inception of the Big 12 Conference.
Batting Averages Up Across The Board
The Red Raiders batting averages are up across the board in 2009, compared to 2008. Tech is batting a full .23 points higher compared to last year, while Elizabeth Eimen is showing the greatest improvement hitting .394 compared to .186 last year. Leah Legler is batting .343 compared to .328, while Megan Shupp is averaging .308 compared to her .245 mark in 2008. Alex Watkins has also improved her .150 average from 2008 to .283 so far this year.
Scouting No. 6 Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners come to Lubbock after losing three out of their last four, but sporting an overall record of 17-5. Oklahoma is led by Amber Flores with a batting average of .421, 24 hits, five home runs, and 23 RBI's. In the circle, the Sooners are paced by D.J. Mathis with a 2.35 ERA and a record of 6-2. Oklahoma is 10-0 against Tech while playing in Lubbock.
