Tulsa Wins Its Own Tournament with Win

TULSA, Okla. - Sophomore setter Karlyn Meyers had 30 assists and three block assists in the final match of the Tulsa Airport Radisson Tournament but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane handed Texas Tech (2-7) its second loss of the day, 3-0.
With the win Tulsa (8-2) finished 2-1 at the event and wins the tournament because it beat Stephen F. Austin in head-to-head competition.
Outside hitter Amanda Dowdy punched in 13 kills to lead Tech offensively and Barbara Conceicao belted 9 winners. The blocking game, of which Meyers is an integral part, remains Tech's best weapon as the Red Raiders out-blocked Tulsa, 7-4.
Junior outside hitter Caroline Courtney came off the bench to give Tech a boost early in the match and finished with a 5-for-7 kills performance (.714 efficiency) and added two block assists as well.
For her efforts throughout the event, Meyers was named to the all-tournament team.
The Red Raiders begin conference play with their Big 12 opener on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Lincoln, Neb.
