TEXAS TECH POSTGAME NOTES
GETTING STARTED
- Weather conditions at kickoff: Mostly cloudy skies; 84 degrees, winds were calm.
- Tonight's game was televised nationally on ABC with Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit and Lisa Salters calling the action. The game marked the fourth time in the last five Big 12 games that the Red Raiders have been featured in ABC's primetime national telecast.
- Texas Tech won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Texas Tech is now 2-1 on the season in the opening coin toss.
- Texas Tech wore its third different uniform combination of the season tonight against Texas as the team went with their road white jerseys on black pants. In the two previous home games, Tech wore red over red against Rice and black over white against North Dakota.
- Three Red Raiders made the first career starts tonight against the Longhorns: Offensively - Eric Stephens (running back). Defensively - Chris Perry (tackle) and Brett Dewhurst (safety).
- Tonight's attendance was 101,297 - a new Texas Memorial Stadium record. Tonight's crowd represents the largest to ever watch a football game (college or professional) in the state of Texas. The crowd is the second largest that Tech has ever played in front of trailing only the Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. The attendance for that game was 106,285.

TECH'S LOSS. . .
- Gives Mike Leach a career record of 78-40. He remains five wins away from becoming the school's all-time wins leader. Spike Dykes currently holds the record with 82.
- Gives Mike Leach a career record of 2-7 against Texas.
- Marks Texas Tech's sixth consecutive loss to the Longhorns in Austin. Tech's last win at Texas Memorial Stadium was a 24-10 decision in back in 1997.
- Snaps Texas Tech's two-game win streak and is Tech's third consecutive loss away from Jones AT&T Stadium.
- Texas Tech fell to 7-2 all-time on this date and was Tech's first loss on Sept. 19th since the 1992 season.
LOW SCORING FIRST HALF
The Texas Tech offense was held to just three points in the first half marking the first time that has happened since the game at TCU in 2006. The then 20th-ranked Horned Frogs held the Red Raiders to a field goal in the first quarter and pitched a shutout the rest of the way to claim a 12-3 win.
- Neither Tech nor Texas was able to score an offensive touchdown in the first half.
- The Red Raider defense has not allowed a first half touchdown in three games this season.
ANOTHER MULTI-TD GAME FOR LEONG
Yet again, the touchdown's come in bunches for Lyle Leong. For the second-straight week and the third time in his career, Leong led the offense with a multiple-TD effort. Last week against Rice, Leong hauled in three touchdowns to match his career high that he set last season at Kansas State. Leong has never had a single touchdown game in his career.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Texas Tech struck first in tonight's game as place kicker Matt Williams nailed a career-long 41-yard field goal to give the Red Raiders a 3-0 lead with 11:06 remaining in the first quarter.
- Senior defensive lineman Richard Jones put a stop to Texas' first drive of the game in the first quarter when he sacked Colt McCoy on a 3rd and 8 situation.
- Texas scored its first touchdown on a 46-yard punt return for a touchdown by Jordan Shipley. Shipley returned a 45-yard punt for a TD in last year's game and was the last player to do so against the Red Raiders until tonight.
- Junior cornerback LaRon Moore picked off Colt McCoy with 10:02 remaining in the second quarter to earn his first career interception. The interception ended a Texas drive at the Texas Tech 27-yardline.
- The Tech offense finally found its groove on its first offensive possession of the second half and produced its first touchdown of the night. Taylor Potts connected with fellow Abilene native Lyle Leong for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter to pull Tech to within seven.
- Early in the fourth quarter gave the Red Raiders a boost. Austin native D.J. Johnson, picked off his first career interception to give Tech the ball on its own 19 yard line.
