Texas Tech Head Coach Tommy Tuberville
Opening Statement
"The guys fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense and defense at times, and at other times we did look good. Everything looked pretty good to me in terms of both teams playing hard, but we are just not good enough to go out and make that many mistakes and have a chance to beat anybody."
On ISU's rushing attack
"Any time you give up that many rushing yards, it's disheartening, but they [Iowa State] were making some pretty good plays."
On what went wrong
"The kicking game tonight ... we just didn't show up. The kickers and punters ... and then we dropped a punt. We fought back and if we could have ever gotten the lead, I thought we could have taken control of the game. We kept fighting hard but when you're on the road like that, you can't give up that many big plays. We'll go back to work tomorrow and get ready for the next game."
On not being able to get over the hump
"We gave up a third down for a touchdown at the end of the first half. We gave up another third down touchdown later, and then of course the onside kick that was returned for a touchdown - that's just one of those deals that just happens. I thought we had a chance to get it. It was a good kick, but unfortunately the ball bounced wrong for us."
Quarterback Taylor Potts
On the loss
"There's no sweet about it. A loss on the road that we felt like we should have won, there just isn't anything sweet about that."
On offensive line
"The offensive line played unbelievable. They were the reason we had a chance coming back. I only got touched a few times."
Safety Franklin Mitchem
On Iowa State's offense
"I don't think they wore us out, they just made big plays and we couldn't execute defense as well. Their offense just made plays and we didnt execute our defense and plays turned into big plays."
Iowa State Head Coach Paul Rhoads
Opening statement
"A couple of things I wanted to say. That was the most points Iowa State has scored against a Big 12 opponent. Maybe not orthodox, but the first kickoff return for a touchdown since Troy Davis in 1994, it was also the second kickoff return in the history of Jack Trice Stadium. We had a pregame meal at 2:00 p.m., our team was there eight minutes early, ready to eat. We were ready to play."
On Austen Arnaud
"I haven't talked to him yet but you saw what he did, his left arm was hanging and he took a couple of good shots. That was a courageous player to scramble and run the ball after taking shots. He just kept stepping back up and doing it again. He made a pass, a third down conversion to Darius Darks, a pass that he didn't make consistently. He sat in there, he read the coverage and he delivered an accurate ball. He showed the faith that this football team and coaching staff has in him."
"He was so much stronger this week than he was a week ago. He practiced every single day this week. As the game went on, I knew he was hurting, that was a lot of courage."
On the running game
"The passing game opened the running game. We had two 100-yard rushers and what Jeff Woody contributed was very important to the victory. We threw the ball effectively and we threw the ball downfield."
On tonight's energy
"There was a different energy tonight. It starts with being ready to play. When you are 18, 19, 20 years old, you take the field with a conviction and we played differently. We practiced with conviction and it showed tonight. We put 52 points on the board, but we had a kickoff return and short field to work with. We haven't worked with short field much this season. It is hard to drive the ball 80 yards and get the defense off the field."
