Red Raider Profile - Aaron Corwin
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team is heading toward the end of its fall season, and throughout the remainder of the semester Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Aaron Corwin (RHP/DH - 5-11, 165 - R/R - So./TR - Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis/Feather River College)
To say Aaron Corwin is familiar with Texas Tech head baseball coach Dan Spencer would be an understatement. Not only is Corwin from Corvallis, Ore., he also grew up in the same neighborhood as Spencer, when Tech's skipper was the pitching coach for the two-time national champion Oregon State Beavers.
Corwin spent last year helping Feather River College to the best record among California Junior College programs with a 31-7 mark. He was a Golden Valley First Team All-Conference selection while going 8-2 in 12 starts with a 4.38 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched. He led the team with 66 strikeouts and two shutouts. His .218 opponent batting average was also best on the squad.
He spent only one year at Feather River College after a stellar prep career that saw him named as the 5A Oregon Pitcher of the Year in 2009.
He was a two-way standout in high school, finishing his senior year with a 12-1 record, 2.17 ERA and with 127 strikeouts and only 20 walks. He also hit .419 with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 38 walks.
"We feel that Aaron is going to help us a bunch out of the bullpen," Spencer said. "He throws four pitches for strikes. The biggest thing he does is throw a lot of strikes. He is very aggressive. We think that he is going to be an ideal bullpen guy for us."
Corwin is one of 23 underclassmen on the Texas Tech fall roster.
