Lady Raiders Advance to NCAA Championships

The No. 3 Texas Tech Lady Raiders cross country team advanced to its fifth-straight NCAA Cross Country Championships after placing second at the NCAA Mountain Regional held at the Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City, Utah.
"Good effort by the ladies," head coach Jon Murray said after the race. "Our main objection was to get back to nationals and we achieved our goal and we are excited to go back to the national meet."
Rose Tanui was the top finisher for the Lady Raiders, as she was second overall. She covered the 6K course in a time of 20:11.5. Winrose Karunde ran one of her best races of the season to place seventh. Winrose Karunde crossed the line in 20:40.9.
Caroline Jepleting ran a 21:00.0 and finished in 14th place. Her teammate, Purity Biwott, was right behind her in 15th place with a time of 21:00.4. Caroline Karunde was the fifth Lady Raider to finish with a time of 21:03.0, placing 17th overall.
The Lady Raiders finished with 55 points to place second as a team while No. 10 New Mexico won the meet with a team score of 53 and No. 8 Colorado was third with 59 points.
The Red Raiders finished in 13th place at the NCAA Mountain Regional meet with 341 points. No. 10 New Mexico won the men's race with 45 points.
Silas Kemboi was the first to finish the 10K course. He ran a time of 31:19.3 to place 46th. Gilbert Limo was the next Red Raider to cross the line in 58th after a time of 31:42.9.
Nathan Milles covered the course in 32:12.4 and placed 74th. Samuel Bushong was 82nd overall in a time of 32:39.3. Reid Strong was the fifth Red Raider as he ran a time of 32:41.3 and finished in 84th place.
The Lady Raiders will head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Cross Country Championships to be held Monday, Nov. 22.
