LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Baseball Alumni Weekend is officially underway as 60-plus former players and their families attended a dinner tonight in the baseball clubhouse to kickoff the weekend.
Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer welcomed the group back to campus, many for the first time since their playing careers ended with the Red Raiders.
"What an awesome event," said Joe Dillon, former All-American and current member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization. "I am really glad that coach Spencer has embraced all the former players in this program and found a way to get us all back together again. Seeing all the guys together again and telling old stories really makes you appreciate just what a great experience college baseball was and how much fun we had at Texas Tech."
Dillon and the rest of the alumni squad will get the chance to put on the Scarlet & Black again tomorrow afternoon when they take on the 2010 version of Red Raider baseball. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. but will be preceded by an "Old Timer's Game" that will get underway at noon.
Admission is free and an autograph session will be held on the field immediately after the conclusion of the game.
