Red Raiders Race Past McMurry in Home Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team opened its 2010 home schedule with a 7-0 victory over McMurry in the first of two matches at the McLeod Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Red Raiders led throughout every match, only losing seven games total on the singles side. Tech's top-three players, Raony Carvalho, Gonzalo Escobar and Vitor Manzini, all won straight-set, 6-0, 6-0 matches, while David Pace claimed a 6-1, 6-1, straight-set decision at the No. 4 position.
Despite already having the match in hand, Tech completed its singles matches with a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Jeff Bryan in the No. 5 slot and a 6-1, 6-1 win by Zach Jiganti in the No. 6 position.
Tech continued its solid play in doubles with Escobar and Andre Stabile taking a quick 8-1 victory in the top slot. Bryan and Jiganti wrapped an 8-2 victory in the No. 3 position shortly after, while Manzini and Raphael Phister closed the morning match with a similar 8-2 decision.
The win improves Tech to 4-1 early in the season. The Red Raiders close the day against Abilene Christian at 1 p.m.
