LUBBOCK, Texas - Michigan unloaded with a six-run third inning while Alan Oaks went six innings as the Wolverines topped Jacksonville State, 14-2, Saturday in the Red Raider Classic at Dan Law Field.
The Wolverines enter their third tournament game against host Texas Tech with a perfect 2-0 record. The Gamecocks drop to 0-2 on the weekend with both losses coming to Michigan.
Michigan once again relied on a big inning, driving in six runs in both the fourth and seventh innings. Mike Dufek drove in six runs off a 3-for-5 day at the plate, while Coley Crank smashed his fourth home run of the weekend.
Patrick Biondi added two RBIs for the Wolverines, who once again showed balance offensively with four different players having multiple-hit games.
After a strong day at the plate the previous day, Jacksonville State struggled offensively with only five hits as its only two runs came off an Andrew Edge double in the fifth inning.
Oaks set the tone on the mound for the Wolverines as the right-hander limited the Gamecocks to only four hits over his six innings. Jacksonville State starter Jordan Beistline was not as successful, however, allowing three runs over 3.1 innings to earn the loss.
The Red Raider Classic concludes Sunday as Michigan and Tech faceoff at 11 a.m., before JSU and Tech conclude the tournament with a 2 p.m. scheduled start.
