LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider Club's annual football recruiting review in Houston and Dallas was met with record crowds yesterday giving the fund raising arm of the Texas Tech Athletics Department a huge boost of momentum heading into the second decade of the 21st century.
Texas Tech supporters got their first opportunity to meet newly named head football coach Tommy Tuberville and his entire coaching staff as they made stops in both Houston and Dallas. It marked the first time in the history of the event, that the entire coaching staff made the trip to take part in this crucial fundraising effort.
"We couldn't be more excited about the turnout we had in both Houston and Dallas," said Steve Uryasz, Senior Associate AD/Red Raider Club. "Red Raider fans are stepping up to the challenge and are buying into coach Tuberville's philosophies of winning championships and graduating players. Both events saw significant numbers of new attendees and the willingness to join the Red Raider Club and support all of our student-athletes at Texas Tech. What a great time to be a Red Raider."
The Houston area event, held at the Toyota Center in downtown, sold out for the first time as over 320 people attended the luncheon. The event marked the first public appearance outside of Lubbock for coach Tuberville after he accepted the job on Jan. 10.
The day concluded at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas that evening and over 800 fans attended, getting their first glimpse of the new coaching staff.
Since Tuberville's arrival on campus, the Red Raider Club has seen a significant increase in the number of membership inquiries and anticipate 2010 to be the best fund raising year in the department's history.
