Baseball Set To Host Alumni Game On Saturday

LUBBOCK, Texas - For the first time since the 2003 season, Texas Tech Baseball will hold an alumni game at Dan Law Field giving Red Raider fans a chance to get an early preview of this year's squad and reacquaint themselves with former players and coaches.
This year's alumni game will get underway at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Dan Law Field and admission will be free. Fans can enter the stadium at 10 a.m. once the alumni team begins taking batting practice. An autograph and photo session will take place on the field immediately following the game and fans are encouraged to bring autograph items to be signed. Schedule posters and cards for the 2010 season will also be available for use as autograph items.
"This is something that we intend to make an annual event here," said Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer. "I think it's important for a program to maintain a relationship with its former players and I am looking forward to the opportunity for our staff and team to develop a bond with those that have come before us. We are going to host a dinner for the alumni and their families on Friday night and I hope this event is something that keeps bringing them back year after year."
Prior to the start of the alumni game at 1 p.m. an "Old Timer's Game" will start at noon and conclude around 12:45 p.m.
An official alumni roster will be announced sometime Friday evening once jerseys have been allocated. Notable alumni committed to the game are Clint Bryant, Marco Cunningham, Travis Driskill, Kevin Jordan, Roger Kieschnick, Ronnie Mattson, Zach Stewart, Dion Ruekcer and Shane Wright, just to name a few.
Saturday's pitching staff for Texas Tech will feature an entire group of newcomers as junior RHP Bobby Doran will get the starting nod and will be followed in relief by RHP Brett Bruening, RHP John Neely, RHP Brandon Petite and LHP Jay Johnson.
Texas Tech will officially begin its 2010 season on Friday, Feb. 19th against Jacksonville State in the second game of the Red Raider Classic. Season tickets for the 2010 season are currently on sale through the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office.
