LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech (31-12, 3-8) has an important Big 12 week which begins when the Red Raiders play host to the Big 12's best team, No. 7/8 Oklahoma State (40-7, 9-0), on Thursday for a double header beginning at 5 p.m.
For the Red Raiders, who notched a win over then No. 12 Oklahoma last week before dropping a series to No. 11 Missouri in Columbia, there were some bright spots for Coach Shanon Hays to build on.
"I thought we hit much better, we just didn't get the key hits in the big moments, but that happens in this sport and we've got to find a way to get back to scoring," Hays said.
"Our pitching, which has been pretty solid all season, was solid again, but there's always room for improvement on both sides of the ball. It'll be good to be home for the pair against Oklahoma State and it's important that we stay focused and come out ready to play."
Following that pair, the team heads north to face Kansas (18-26, 1-10) for two games over the weekend. (Kansas will have a single game with Nebraska tomorrow night.)
Texas Tech, which is now batting .305 as a team, is lead offensively by sophomore third baseman Emily Bledsoe's .365 average with 15 doubles and freshman Mikey Kenney's 14 home runs and team-leading 36 runs batted in (.339 average). Tech is led in the circle by senior right hander Ashly Jacobs' 11 wins and 1.34 ERA. Freshman right hander Ashley Brokeshoulder (7-5, 2.19 ERA) and sophomore southpaw Karli Merlich (9-2, 2.81 ERA) round out the current staff.
