LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider head coach Pat Knight announced Texas Tech's 2010-2011 non-conference schedule today. The Red Raiders will play ten home games and face five opponents on the road.
Texas Tech opens their 2010-2011 season at the United Spirit Arena on Friday, November 12, as they take on a new opponent, Louisiana-Monroe.
Then, the Red Raiders are on the road for a November 16 game against the Mean Green of the University of North Texas in Denton. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1999.
The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin return to the United Spirit Arena on November 19.
On November 21, Texas Tech hosts another new opponent for the season, the Liberty University Flames from Lynchburg, Virginia.
Two days later, the Red Raiders take on the Eagles of Georgia Southern at the United Spirit Arena.
Texas Tech will also serve as a host-site for the South Padre Island Invitational, one of college basketball's elite Thanksgiving tournaments. Each team will play four games in the tournament with the first two at campus sites, and the final two rounds at the South Padre Island Convention Center on beautiful South Padre Island, Texas, on November 26 and 27.
After the South Padre Island Invitational, Texas Tech hosts Oral Roberts on November 30. The last meeting between the Red Raiders and the Golden Eagles was in 2000.
Texas Tech travels to Seattle, Washington, for their December 4 Big 12/Pac-10 game against the Washington Huskies. Last season, the Red Raiders downed the Huskies at the United Spirit Arena on December 3, in overtime, 99-92.
The Raiders host the TCU Horned Frogs on December 8, and then are at UTEP on December 18.
Texas Tech closes out the non-conference portion of their 2010-2011 schedule with four home games. On December 22, the Red Raiders take on the UT-Arlington Mavericks. It is the first meeting between the two teams since the 1992 season. The New Mexico Lobos return to the United Spirit Arena on December 29. The Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are in Lubbock on January 2.
Texas Tech concludes non-conference play against their third new team of the season, the Hornets of Delaware State on January 4.
