STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State utilized a seven-run fourth inning and got seven strong frames from Lubbock native Thomas Keeling and the Cowboys went on to take the series opener 13-3 on Friday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The loss drops Texas Tech to 15-18 on the season and to 4-6 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma State improves to 18-10 and 3-6 in the conference.
Lubbock native and Coronado product Thomas Keeling (3-3) was sensational for the Cowboys as he held the Red Raiders to just two runs on seven hits and struckout 10 over seven innings of work. Keeling, the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, kept the Tech offense at bay while the Cowboys stormed out to a 9-0 lead.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Thomas Belza, the Cowboys exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach. OSU scored all seven of its runs on seven hits and chased away Louis Head with just one out in the inning. Head gave up eight runs on 10 hits and walked two others to suffer the loss and fell to 1-2 on the year.
Senior center fielder Taylor Ashby finally put the Red Raiders on the board in the sixth when he drove a two-RBI double down the left field line. Freshman first baseman Barrett Barnes led all Tech hitters as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a walk.
Texas Tech will look to even up this series tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet for game-two. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
