LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech pitcher Josh Tomlin will make his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians tonight against the defending World Series Champion New York Yankees with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. (CT) from Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Tomlin, a native of Whitehouse, Texas, spent the 2006 season at Tech after transferring from Angelina Junior College. Appearing in 13 games, including seven starts, for the Red Raiders, Tomlin recorded a 1-3 record with a 4.20 ERA. The Indians selected the right-hander in the 19th round of the 2006 MLB Draft.
Through 20 appearances this season with Cleveland's Triple-A Columbus affiliate, Tomlin has posted an 8-4 record with an impressive 2.68 ERA. He has added 80 strikeouts during his 107 total innings.
Tomlin's debut comes with most of baseball keeping its eye on Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, who is one home run shy of 600 for his career. He will be opposed on the mound by Yankees ace CC Sabathia.
