Red Raider Profile - Daniel Coulombe
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season is underway, and throughout the remainder of the semester Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Daniel Coulombe (LHP - 5-10, 195 - L/L - Jr./TR - Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS/South Mountain CC)
Daniel Coulombe was the definition of a "highly touted" prep coming out of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. He was a Louisville Slugger and Rawlings All-American, named the Arizona 4A State Player of the Year, led his high school summer team to the Connie Mack World Series in Farmington, N.M., and to cap it all off was a 17th round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Coulombe took his talents to USC where he saw immediate action throwing in four games - with one start -striking out 13 batters in just eight innings. He then transferred to South Mountain Community College for the 2010 season - but missed almost all of his sophomore campaign due injury.
Now healthy and in Lubbock, Coulombe will look to be a difference maker for the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech returns a pitching staff with just two pitchers who threw more than 30 innings in 2010.
"I think his experience is huge, but more than anything he is a very talented pitcher," Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer said. "Daniel is a very skilled individual. I think Daniel will be in our weekend rotation somewhere."
Coulombe is one of 10 left-handed pitchers listed on the Red Raiders' fall roster.
