LUBBOCK, Texas - Don Flora's effect on the Texas Tech volleyball program has already begun as the newly-named head coach announced Friday that Nicole Hragyil had enrolled at the university in time for the spring semester.
Hragyil, a Carrollton, Texas native, marks the first student-athlete to join the program since Flora's hiring a week ago. She redshirted her freshman season at the University of Tulsa this year and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
"With Nicole being our first athlete to commit to Tech in my tenure, we are thrilled to have her join us," Flora said. "She has a great volleyball IQ and loves to compete. She will add a lot to our daily gym environment."
A four-year letterwinner at Hebron High School, Hragyil (pronounced Ra-gil) was one of the top setters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, leading the Hawks to the playoffs her final three seasons, including a trip to the regional semifinals as a senior.
During her final three seasons, Hragyil was named to the first team all-district squad each year and earned District 6-5A Setter of the Year honors following her junior and senior seasons. She earned Newcomer of the Year honors as a sophomore.
Hragyil's arrival gives Tech 12 student-athletes on its roster for the spring, which begins early next week with the start of group workouts.
