LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Elizabeth Ullathorne and Samantha Adams both fell in the pre-qualifying draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Championships held in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
"I felt it was a good start to the tournament," head coach Todd Petty said. "I thought Liz (Ullathorne) played well in her match but physically wasn't at the same level as her opponent. Sam (Adams) beat a very talented girl in the first match and honestly played her best match of the season in her loss. She found another level in her second round match and has really improved from last season."
Adams won her first round match beat Jennifer Sher of Northridge 6-4, 7-6 (3) in her first round match. She faced North Carolina's Lauren McHale in the second round and it was a battle in all three sets. Adams fought back to even the match at one a piece after taking the second set 6-3 before falling in the final set 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Ullathorne dropped her match to Sarah Pham of Utah 6-2, 6-1. Ullathorne has battled injury for much of the fall season.
Adams and Nikki Sanders will play in the doubles tournament starting on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
