Dowdy Receives Big 12 All Conference Award in Pre-Game Ceremony
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Volleyball team participated in the first of four events at Lady Raiders home games which have been dubbed, "Pink Treadmill Party" games and which are held throughout February.
The Pink Treadmill events, which raise money for both the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Marsha Sharp Leadership Circle which benefits Texas Tech Athletics, began Saturday when the Lady Raiders hosted No. 6 Texas A&M, on Saturday, Feb. 5.
The first Pink Treadmill Party game featured all youth walkers, including basketball coaches Kristy and Kelly Curry's daughter, Kendall, and head softball coach Shanon Hays' daughter, Hampton, on the pink Cybex machines, along with many other area youths. Each walker is sponsored for their efforts by local businesses, family and friends.
The Red Raiders Volleyball squad was on-hand to support the Lady Raiders and to mingle with the crowd while helping raise funds during an in-game promotion of the annual fund-raising event.
Also, in a pre-game ceremony, the crowd greeted junior outside hitter Amanda Dowdy who earned first-team All Big 12 honors for her efforts throughout the 2010 season. She is only the seventh Tech player to be so honored. Additionally, Dowdy became the eighth player to join the 1,000 kill club at Tech when she surpassed the mark in the Red Raiders' Big 12 win over Colorado in Boulder in November.
The Red Raiders began practice sessions with new head coach Don Flora when the semester began earlier this winter. The team hopes to announce their 2011 schedule in the next few weeks.
