LUBBOCK, Texas - After a record-setting weekend in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, junior infielder Logan Hall was named the Big 12 Player of the Week Tuesday, Texas Tech's first weekly accolade since the 2004 season.
Hall led the Red Raiders at the plate all weekend, hitting .583 with three home runs, seven runs scored, 16 RBIs, and two stolen bases en route to earning the tournament's Top Hitter accolade.
The Tucson, Ariz. native set a new career high with seven RBIs in the tournament opener against Northern Illinois last Friday. She helped put the game away for the Red Raiders in the fourth, crushing just the fourth grand slam in school history as part of a 3-for-3 game that included three runs scored and a stolen base.
If the feat was not big enough, Hall returned to the diamond the next day against St. John's to power in seven more RBIs - this time all in the same inning. Hall drove in seven of Tech's 11 runs in the third, beginning with a three-run homer. After Tech went through the lineup once, Hall returned to the plate with the bases loaded to deliver another grand slam over the left field wall.
Hall entered last weekend with 16 RBIs through 11 games and is now tied with Jessica Shults of Oklahoma for the conference lead with 32 total RBIs on the year. She is among the league's top 10 in batting average, hits, triples, home runs, total bases, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.
Oklahoma State's Kat Espinosa was named the league's Pitcher of the Week. Texas Tech had not previously picked up a weekly award since Elyssa Sigala was named the conference's Player of the Week on March 9, 2004.
The 19th-ranked Red Raiders return to the diamond this weekend for the Red Raider Classic as Tech will face Howard and Dayton in a three-game series against both schools that begins Friday at Rocky Johnson Field.
