LUBBOCK, Texas - After several weeks of practice, the Texas Tech volleyball team will face an opponent besides itself as the Red Raiders travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for a Saturday tournament at the University of New Mexico.
Tech will play four different matches throughout the day, beginning with Northern Arizona at 8:30 a.m. and then Colorado State immediately after at 9:40 a.m. Following an hour break, Tech will battle New Mexico State at noon before wrapping the day against host New Mexico at 1:10 p.m.
"The staff looks toward this weekend as a valuable measure of the progress the players have made individually and team collectively," head coach Don Flora said. "The players are also ready to compete against new teams instead of each other. The competition in this tournament will be a tremendous test."
The Red Raiders faced nationally-ranked Colorado State last season, falling, 3-0, in the Rams' home tournament. Flora, meanwhile, will be facing his former squad from New Mexico State as the new Tech head coach was an assistant with the Aggies over the past two seasons.
Tech will host its own spring tournament on April 15-16 at the United Spirit Arena. A complete listing of teams competing and times will be announced in the coming weeks.
